delinquency

millie says i'm a delinquent blogger, and that's because i'm a delinquent reader. i'm only on page 60 or so... hehe i will see what i can do by sunday. no fear, i have read it before, but it is amazing how much more of an understanding i have this time around with the frame of our current political context.

anyway. random trivia bit that i just remembered about the book: i once heard that 1984 is alluded to in pop culture today more than any other text. second is the bible, third is shakespeare (collectively, not a single work). i'm not sure if i believe this, and i can't find it anywhere online... what do you think?

nevertheless, i was listening to my coldplay cd as i drove home from work and realized that "spies" is about this world in the book:

I awake to find no peace of mind
I said how do you live
As a fugitive?
Down here, where I cannot see so clear
I said what do I know?
Show me the right way to go

And the spies came out of the water
And you're feeling so bad 'cause you know
And the spies hide out in every corner
But you can't touch them no
'Cause they're all spies
